Music Magazines... and problems they face...

If we were to publish a new music magazine today it would be economic suicide. In the second half of 2011 nearly all magazines had a circulation fall, Q, NME and Uncut all suffered double-digit year-on-year sale declines. Uncut lost 14.2% of circulation.

Mojo remained the best-selling paid-for with a 0.3% sales lift in the first half of 2011 but a fell 7.5% in the second half.

A reason for this could be that obviously with the depression people are cutting things out and music things will be one of the first thing to cut out, this is because you can find the contents of a magazine for example tour dates online for free also you can now get free music magazines so you don't need to pay for another one.

How are paid music magazines staying afloat?

Paid magazines not only have to compete with internet information available to the public but free music magazines too, heres's how they succeed;

  • Digital versions of magazines - iPad, online interactive magazines.
  •  Publishing codes that unlock new and exclusive content online.
  • Subscription offers give a hefty discount on the magazine sometimes up to 75%

Final Contents Page

This is my final contents page, I have included a photo of my magazine front cover to make it realistic and seem like you can subscribe to ID as this is features a lot of magazines have.

For my Contents title I have written it in Serif font so it makes the audience feel of a high status and elegant also I have put behind it the masthead for ID but to do this and have both still visable it change the opacity of the ID.

To edit my image I cut out the background,blurred the edges and changed the brightness and contrast, I also put on a dark blue photo filter making the t-shirt and glasses stand out with a blue tint which altogether made my photograph stand out more.

I have changed the angle of my writing and header to make it look younger and more modern. If I hadn't moved the font around then it would look a lot like a poster, this isn't what I wanted.

I have put the sub headings in blue because that it the colour that represents ID magazine.
